Story
My name is Leah McIlwrath and I am a dance teacher at Comber Highland Dancers. Sadly in 2023 I lost my Granny Strain as she suffered with dementia for many years. My granny had a real passion for baking and also loved to help out at the kitchen at many of our dance competitions🥰. I have also recently finished my nursing degree through Queens and I have seen many times on placement how Dementia/Alzheimers affects patients and their families daily. I also know within our dance school many family members also suffer with Dementia/Alzheimers.
Therefore we have chosen Alzheimers Society as our charity for our coffee morning being held in Comber Rec FC on the 19th September 2026, 9am-11am.
Everyone is more than welcome to come along for a chat, drink and some traybakes!
Myself and my family will also be taking part in the Alzheimers Memory walk 2026 on the 26th Sept and I would encourage anyone whos able to take part in it!💙
At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.
We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future.
