Story
On the 9th December 2025, my world changed forever.
I received a call from my brother telling me he had cancer. Not long after, we were told it was stage 4 oesophageal cancer, and it had already spread to his liver. There were no real warning signs, no symptoms that made us think something this serious was happening. Dean had suffered with acid reflux for a long time, but it had been overlooked, and he never had any problems eating.
It was only when he began experiencing pain in his side that further tests were done — and by then, it was too late.
Dean was just 37 years old. He was otherwise healthy, full of life, incredibly talented, and the best brother anyone could ever ask for. He was an amazing singer, but more than that, he was kind, funny, and deeply loved by everyone who knew him.
From the moment he was diagnosed, our whole family came together and stayed by his side every single step of the way. And through it all, Dean showed a level of bravery that I will never forget. Even in the face of something so cruel, he wanted to raise awareness — to help others understand the dangers and complications that something as common as acid reflux can lead to.
Just 8 weeks after his diagnosis, on the 7th February 2026, we lost him. Dean passed away surrounded by his family, with so much love around him.
Nothing can ever fill the space he has left behind.
I am doing this run in memory of my incredible brother — to honour his strength, his bravery, and the amazing person he was. I also want to continue what he cared about so deeply: raising awareness, so that other families don’t have to go through this pain.
If you are able to donate, no matter how small, it would mean so much. And if nothing else, please take a moment to listen to your body and seek help if something doesn’t feel right.
Run for Dean. 🤍
