In June 2026 I’m stepping out of my comfort zone and heading to Malawi to volunteer at the Lion Project for six weeks.

After my dad passed I felt lost and didn’t know who I was or what the future held and then I heard about this project. So naturally I signed up. This is going to be a whole new way of living and working and if I’m honest not sure how I’m going to cope! I’m a very picky eater and like my independence. I’m not just going to be able to jump in my car and pop down the shops.

I’m once again running Manchester to Liverpool and hope to raise some funds to make a difference.

Malawi has the 3rd highest rate of road traffic deaths in the world. For every death, there are twenty-five non-fatal injuries causing permanent disabilities, which can affect entire families and lead to poverty and dependency. Hand and wrist injuries comprise about 20% of injuries presenting to the emergency department (ED) from road traffic accidents (RTA), industrial accidents, and interpersonal violence
