Fri 27th Oct 2023 my life turned upside down, the fear that every parent dreads, being told my youngest daughter Harriet just 7 years old had a brain tumour ☹

Thrown completely into the unknown, every single emotion / feeling you can imagine ….. I’ve been through it all, along with my family and friends too who have been super supportive.

Harriet was admitted almost immediately to ALDER HEY and was into her first surgery to reduce fluid on her brain, then on 9th Nov she underwent full-on brain surgery to remove the tumour. My baby girl turned into a strong, brave young lady in less than 2 weeks.

Days before being discharged from hospital she contracted norovirus, this resulted in sepsis, which was life-threatening especially now, due to her lifelong medical conditions …. multiple pituitary hormone deficiencies, cortisol insufficiency, diabetes to name a few ! I've certainly learn't an awful lot over the last 2 months !

We are now trying to adjust our lives to manage with these conditions.

I can’t thank enough the nurses, doctor’s, surgeons, specialists and ALL staff at ALDER HEY, I always knew about ALDER HEY, but until you are in the thick of it you really see the amazing, fantastic work that happens. ALDER HEY has been a huge part of my life over the last 2 months and if it wasn't for them I'm not sure Harriet would be here now, they really have saved her life.

Harriet is making a good recovery, we're still regulars at ALDER HEY and will be now until she's 16 and then she’ll move under the care of an adult hospital.

So now I want to give something back , by running 10k (yes 10k!!) all donations will to go to ALDER HEY CHILDREN’S HOPSITAL.

14th April 2024, Me, Danny, Mel, Halle, Jo, Dave and Finn are taking part in the Mersey Tunnel 10k, the team at ALDER HEY are just amazing any donation no matter how big or small will make a difference. Please help us to raise as much as possible for such a great hospital.
