Story
My brother Sean and I will be running the Big Half in September 2026 in honour of our mum, Ruth Weir.
Mum suddenly passed away from a heart attack in August 2025, just days before my hen do and a week before my birthday. Her loss has been completely life-altering, and navigating life without her has been incredibly difficult. I’ve decided to channel my grief into running and by supporting charities that meant so much to her.
Mum was a huge animal lover, as many will know, and she had a particularly soft spot for cats. She regularly supported a number of animal charities and frequently donated to Celia Hammond, especially the Lewisham branch. She didn’t just give money, she also donated supplies whenever she could. Celia Hammond is an amazing charity and they have assisted Mum with her own cats so many times.
We know Mum would absolutely love that we are fundraising for such an amazing cause, and we know she would be so grateful.
Any donation, no matter the amount, would be hugely appreciated and will help continue the kind of compassion Mum showed to animals.
We miss you so much, Mum, and we can’t wait to do you proud.
