Story
For as long as many people can remember, I have had long hair. Hair can often form so much of how we see ourselves and how we feel about how we look, and for me, having long hair has been one of the main ways people describe me to others and has become a part of my self-identity.
I cannot imagine not only being told you have a serious illness like cancer, but that you will lose your hair during the course of your battle with it, and I especially cannot imagine the additional pain and upset this will cause a child/young person who may not fully understand.
I feel incredibly lucky that I am and have been able to have such long hair for such a long time, and donating my hair is something I can so easily do for someone to help them feel more like themselves, when their whole world has been turned upside-down, so I decided to finally take the plunge and set a date.
Unfortunately just having my hair cut isn't enough as it costs about £700 to make each wig, so I am asking anyone who can, to support me by sponsoring whatever you can (sponsor money going to the Little Princess Trust), to ensure that we can help get another wig made ASAP, and hopefully create a happy memory during such a hard time.
Oh, and I am planning on cutting off 12-14 inches so please be as generous as possible. My hair will be cut by the wonderful Tash of Bodhi Hair and Beauty in Nottingham. I have never trusted anyone else with my hair so it seemed only right that she be the one to cut off all the hair she has painstakingly cared for, and for so long, and because this will be the last appointment in a while where she will need me to stand to reach the ends so I wanted her to be a part of it.
About the charity:
We currently supply around 2,000 wigs every year and so The Little Princess Trust needs financial donations, as well as hair donations, for its free wig provision service. We also fund childhood cancer research and, since 2016, have supported 128 projects searching for kinder and more effective treatments. This all means that every pound you raise helps us give Hair and Hope to so many children and young people with cancer.
