Story
Having watched Dad canter around the London Marathon last year I thought why not apply for a place. After running the event via a ballot place in 2008 I didn’t really think it would happen again…Yet, here we are just over nine weeks out from the start line and the training miles are beginning to ramp up.
I am running in memory of Katharine ‘Coops’ Rutherford and Charlotte Hobbs, two friends sadly lost to Brain Cancer.
Cruelly both Coops and Charlotte were taken from their families and friends in their early 40s. Both were very sporty, driven and loved taking on a challenge. They were never ones for giving up and that’s what I want to emulate on 21st April.
I want to raise funds in their memory for the charity Brain Tumour Research, with the hope that one day new treatments can be found and made available to patients facing this horrible disease.
Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer… yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. This must change.
