Story
"Do you fancy stepping over the edge of one of Calderdale’s most iconic landmarks and doing it for an incredible cause?" they said.
"This is not just an abseil, it is a once in a lifetime adrenaline rush from the tallest folly in the world!" they said.
"Sounds like fun," I said and signed up.
Then I looked at the Wiki page for Wainhouse Tower 😱😱😱
The tower has "369 steps leading to the first of two viewing platforms which is open to the public, and a total of 405 to the top viewing platform which is usually closed to the public."

Oh my goodness, what have I signed up for?
I’m not a fan of spiral staircases. I’m acrophobic.
Yes, I have a thing about heights but I’m doing this anyway.
Please give generously. Sight Support Calderdale (formerly Halifax Society for the Blind) is a local charity that helps people with sight loss stay independent by providing technology support, daily living aids, and practical guidance. They also run vital social groups that help combat isolation and bring people together.
As a volunteer I see directly the difference SSC makes to people’s lives, helping them to remain independent and active. Every donation will help SSC continue their life-changing work in our community.
