GMRC provides information, support and counselling to women who have experienced rape or sexual abuse no matter how long ago that abuse took place, whether as a child or an adult and whether or not it has been reported to the police. We provide training and awareness raising around sexual violence.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the 29th May 2025 will mark 4 years since I was sexually assaulted in Nottingham City Centre. This year my aim is to raise awareness of the importance of consent and women safety.

My mission since I took on the three Yorkshire peaks back in 2022 has been to support local and national charities which support myself along with many offers in recovery after experiencing a traumatic event. I can’t change what happened to me but I can try and make a difference and share my experience to show people that they aren’t ever alone and with the correct support they can also fall back in love with their life.

I have created an organisation called Learning 2 Survive. A growing organisation which supports survivors of sexual abuse as well as a safe page where I open up about my own experience with mental health. I hope by being open, and sharing my story will allow others who are struggling to see they aren’t alone, and with time they can also heal.

This year myself along with 19 members from University of Manchester hockey club will be running Manchester half marathon for Greater Manchester rape crisis. I feel so honoured to off been part of UOM hockey club for the last 3 years, some of my best times were with my teammates and I feel beyond lucky to be shown support from both the men’s club and women’s club.

For more information on GMRC please read below:

• GMRC is a charity which provide free, confidential and non-judgement support service for women and girls in Manchester who have experienced any form of rape or sexual abuse at any time of their lives and whether or not they have reported to the police. They provide a safe place where women can heal. Listen, support and believe is exactly what GMRC stands for and puts this into practise from their services ranging from Support groups for students to individual trauma therapy and supporting family and friends.

• GMRC works to ensure that all our interventions prioritise the safety, security, and dignity of women who use our services as well as our staff and volunteers. They are committed to working to ensure that our services are accessible to all women who may need them.

• GMRC is the chosen charity which I am currently completing my trauma therapy with. After being in counselling for coming up to 4 years, I believe it is now appropriate time to start the next step of healing. Though this is a huge step for me and one which I understand will not be without it challenges I know that GMRC will continue to support and guide me and ultimately lead to a life where my Sexual assault does not control me.

For many this is a huge challenge, we are here to support one another and work as a club to raise awareness and do our part.

Any support is appreciated and hopefully with the money raised we are able to help more women get the help and support they deserve.
