Story
Give Like Dolly Day!!
Taking place on 25 September, or 9/25, in honour of Dolly’s iconic song.
It’s a day to celebrate Dolly’s incredible generosity and help continue the work she cared about so deeply: inspiring a love of books and reading in children everywhere.
If you’d like to Give Like Dolly and support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library here in the UK, you’ll find the link to our fundraising page in the comments. Every £2.16 can help send a book to a child’s home.
What is Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library?
Scottish Book Trust is proud to partner with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to give a free book to all care-experienced and adopted children in Scotland every month. This starts at birth and continues until they are five. The programme is funded by Scottish Government’s Care Experience, Children’s Services Reform & The Promise Division.
Why gift books to care-experienced and adopted children?
Care-experienced children often have lower educational and health outcomes than their peers. They tend to leave education earlier and with fewer qualifications. They may also face poorer mental health.
Research shows that having books at home plays a key role in shaping life outcomes. It helps to:
Improve literacy, speech and creative thinking skills
Promote attachment and bonding with caregivers
Give vulnerable children the best possible start in life
