Story
On 26 September 2026, I’ll be taking on the Tower to Castle Ultra, a 30.9-mile multi-terrain race from Blackpool Tower to Lancaster Castle, to raise money for Arlo’s Adventure, a small Isle of Man charity making a huge difference to local families.
Arlo’s Adventure supports families who need to travel to the UK for a child’s medical treatment by helping with essential costs such as transport, accommodation, and everyday living expenses while they are away from home. At present, Manx Care is only able to cover travel costs for one parent.
They also offer practical and emotional support to families facing the loss of a child or pregnancy, with particular care given to siblings during these incredibly difficult times.
Although it is a small charity, the impact it has on families across the Island is enormous, and it relies heavily on donations to continue offering this support.
This cause means a great deal to me personally. When our son needed surgery off-island, Arlo’s Adventure helped our family at a time when everything felt overwhelming. Their support made a real difference, and this is my way of giving something back.
I know this race is going to be tough, but it’s nothing compared to what families and children in need have to face. That’s why it’s 100% worth doing — to help make sure other families get the support they need.
If you’re able to donate, I’d be incredibly grateful. If not, sharing this would still mean a lot.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Disclaimer: I am absolutely not a "proper runner". That photo is from a few years ago when I foolishly entered a race, somehow made it across the finish line and immediately retired from running — aside from the occasional 5k every few months….
