Story

I'm running the Cardiff Half Marathon for Dementia UK in the memory of my Mum Janet Brown who sadly passed away whilst caring for her husband Keith who’d been diagnosed with Dementia in 2021. Keith struggled daily with the illness along with my Mum who tried her best to care for him. Keith’s struggle continued with support from his family, following my Mums passing but the man we once knew seemed to fade away. Sadly Keith too has now passed on whilst living in care, so it’s for him and my Mum that I want to raise money to support the good work that Dementia UK provide.

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses, provide life-changing care to families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. They help people with dementia stay independent for longer, and support the people caring for them so they have the strength to cope with the bad days, and the energy to enjoy the good days. They have the time to listen and the knowledge to solve problems, helping families take back control when they are struggling.
