Luton Community First Responders is a local non-profit organisation supporting the ambulance service.

CFR's are based within the community and hence will often be nearer to the point of need.

We regularly arrive before the ambulance crew to emergency calls and start life-saving treatment or monitor and reassure the patient, and often family , until the crew arrive. CFR's are trained in oxygen therapy, carry automated external defibrillators and monitoring equipment.

calls we attend include unconscious patients, breathing difficulties, seizures, strokes heart attack and cardiac arrest. CFR's use their own cars to attend calls and drive under normal road conditions, with no exemptions.

Currently, the NHS is funding a CFR car with a kit , but this is on a trial basis until March 2025 ; it may be that this funding will cease and we are therefore looking at the possibility of funding our own CFR car .

the NHS fund an original group kit for use between currently 10 plus responders, and additional kits are funded from charitable donations from businesses and the public.

I am currently the co- ordinator of the Luton group, and in the hope of raising some funds, will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 13th October 2024 .
