My Story
I don’t share this often, but it feels important to say it out loud.
As a young adult, I was diagnosed with cancer so I know firsthand how lucky we are to have The Christie. Because of their care and expertise, I'm still here today - they quite simply saved my life.
Cancer doesn’t just affect one person. Over the years, we’ve lost so many friends and family to this disease, and each loss leaves a mark that never really fades. It’s heartbreaking, unfair, and something far too many of us understand all too well.
I carry immense gratitude for the people who dedicate their lives to fighting cancer and supporting patients and families through the hardest moments imaginable. And I carry deep respect for everyone still fighting, everyone supporting someone they love, and everyone we’ve lost along the way.
This is my story. And it’s why this cause will always matter to me.
Barry's message for the fund raising...
I'm turning 70 next year and to mark the milestone I'm launching '70K with Barry' - a challenge of 7 weeks, each featuring a 10 that can be completed by running, walking, swimming, cycling or any combination of the above.
I'm looking for 70 people to each raise £70, starting on Monday 2nd February 2026.
As an Ambassador for the Christie Teenage & Young Adult Unit, I'm dedicating this challenge to raising funds for a new, state-of-the-art scanner. This scanner will be available to patients aged 1 to 100 and is a true game changer, capable of pinpointing even the smallest areas with remarkable precision.
Together, we can help bring this life-changing technology to the people who need it most.
