72 hole golf challenge · 3 July 2025
Myself, Steve Hunter, Phil Low, Richard Cronwright, Gary White, Dominic McHugh, Tom Straker and Tom Burgess all intrepid golfers from Forest of Galtres Golf Club will be embarking on a golf challenge.
On Thursday 3rd July 2025 we will attempt to play 72 holes in one day. You may think that it's just golf, however...........
It means playing four rounds.
Each round is approximately 17,000 steps and is around 7 miles.
So that means between 60,000-70,000 step and 28 miles .
We will be setting off on the adventure at 05:00hrs and hope to finish around 20:00hrs.
The reason why we are attempting this feat is in memory of my beautiful niece, Liv Wilson who died of bacterial meningitis aged 19 in 2022. This horrendous disease has devastated our family.
We have learned that this disease is avoidable by means of immunisation.
The Meningitis B vaccination that gives protection against the disease for 5 years is made available through the NHS currently only to babies and toddlers, and not teenagers and young adults who are also a higher risk age group to the disease.
We feel it is so wrong that this child age group that are also a higher risk can only currently get the vaccination by paying privately.
My family are supporting the meningitis research foundation, and we have so far raised over £19,000 in Liv’s memory through the Liv Forever campaign to help eradicate this disease so no other family have to go through what my family have.
Please give whatever you can afford in support of this challenge.
If anyone would like to have the privilege of caddying for any one of the golfers for 18 holes, then this would be most welcome. (For a donation 😉)
I would like to thank Steve Hunter who is the 2025/26 Forest of Galtres Golf Club captain, for choosing Meningitis Research for his charity for the year.
