Story
This year I’m taking on the West Highland Way, walking 96 miles from Milngavie to Fort William. I’ll be doing it unsupported, carrying all my supplies for seven days (around 16kg) on my back. While taking on this challenge, I’m hoping to raise vital funds for the lifesaving work of the Scottish Charity Air Ambulance.
If you’ve found this page through my social media, you’ll already know that I’m a keen hillwalker and climber. I spend as much time as I can in Scotland’s mountains and remote places doing what I love. Thankfully, I’ve never needed the help of SCAA, but there are inherent risks in these activities, and it’s hugely reassuring to know that if the worst ever did happen, they are there.
SCAA brings critical care directly to patients, whether that’s on a mountainside, a rural road, an island or in a remote community, giving people the very best possible chance when every second counts.
It costs around £15 million a year to operate this service, and it is funded entirely by charitable donations. They receive no government funding. Every single mission they fly is only possible because of the generosity of supporters.
That’s why I want to do my bit.
The West Highland Way will be a real challenge: long days, unpredictable Scottish weather, inevitable blisters, the formidable midges, and probably a few moments of questioning my life choices! But compared to the work SCAA do every day, it’s a small effort.
I’ll be posting daily updates from the trail on Instagram, sharing the highs, lows and everything in between, so please follow along for progress updates (and to keep me accountable!) @lee_the_mountain_goat
If you’re able to donate, no matter the amount, you’ll be helping keep this vital service flying. SCAA’s mission is simple: to ensure that no one in Scotland suffers or dies because medical help can’t get there in time.
Thank you so much for your support, it will keep me going every step of the way. 🚁🥾
