Why I’m Walking the Kiltwalk for The Wayside Club
I volunteer at The Wayside Club in my spare time, and I’ve seen first-hand the difference it makes every single day. The club provides a safe, welcoming, and non-judgemental space for people who are experiencing homelessness, addiction, or financial hardship — and it does this with no formal funding at all.
At The Wayside Club, visitors can access:
• Hot, nourishing meals
• Showers and hygiene facilities
• Clean clothing
• A food bank resource
• Snacks to take away for those who don’t feel able to come inside
The Wayside Club offers community and friendship. There are no expectations placed on anyone who comes through the door. Everything is free of charge, and everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
For those who want to stay, there’s also the chance to sit, chat, and socialise — even enjoy a game of bingo. For many visitors, this human connection is just as important as the practical support. Volunteers from all backgrounds keep this essential resource running 7 days a week 365 days a year.
As a volunteer, I’ve also felt that same sense of belonging. The community created by both volunteers and visitors is something really special, and it’s a privilege to be part of it.
By walking the Kiltwalk, I’m hoping to give something back financially and help The Wayside Club continue its vital work. Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly towards keeping this warm, safe space open for those who need it most, allowing us to provide basics most of us take for granted.
Thank you so much for reading, supporting, and donating if you can. Your kindness truly makes a difference. 🤍
