Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
In June 2026, we will be cycling from Spain back to the UK and in the process, raise funds for Sarcoidosis UK (www.sarcoidosisuk.org)
The team is Dave Orme, Rich Charnock, Simon (Eddie) Essex and Dave Briggs - Aka, Dobbin, LegEnd, Ten Pint King and Brummie. The planned route should see us do a little over 1,000 miles and nearly 40,000 feet of climbing. We've all known each other for over 40 years since University so we're going to need all the help we can get!
Sarcoidosis is a rare disease and has poor information, support and little research for finding a cure. We’d like that to change. Our friend Paul who has joined us on previous cycling challenges, was struck by a rare form of the disease 18 months ago affecting the nerves - Neurosarcoidosis. It is a condition where lumps called granulomas develop at different sites within the body. If many granulomas form in an organ, they can prevent that organ from working properly. In Paul’s case around the nerves in the spine impacting his mobility and rapidly putting him in wheelchair last summer.
Sarcoidosis can affect many different parts of the body. It often affects the lungs but can also affect the skin, eyes, joints, nervous system, heart and other parts of the body. Most specialists agree that around 1 in every 10,000 people have sarcoidosis in the UK.
