Clare's running the 2025 London Marathon for Leicester Hospitals Charity

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·
'There's a very high chance he's going to die' is not a phrase I ever expected to hear about my big brother as he lay in a coma on life support.
On 19 July 2023 Matthew was transferred to Glenfield Intensive Care Unit in Leicester having developed sepsis after a routine operation at another hospital. From the moment we arrived at Glenfield the staff were incredible. From making us tea throughout that first night, constantly answering the buzzer with kindness as we took it in turns to go and sit by his bedside, to delivering difficult messages with care. Not to mention the team monitoring Matthew around the clock.
That team saved Matthew's life. And whilst I will never be able to show them the depth of my gratitude, raising money for Glenfield Intensive Care Unit is my small way of giving back.
But I'm not just doing this for my family. I'm doing it for all the families we met in the Intensive Care waiting room - a place that unites people in times of immense grief. And for any family who unfortunately has to experience that place, that they be reassured their loved one is being supported by the most amazing medical team.
I may run (you might not know, I don't often mention it...) but I've never run a marathon. The prospect of running London is a terrifying (and tiny bit exciting) one that I hope raises lots of money for this fantastic cause. Any pennies you are able to donate would be hugely appreciated.
And if you're not in a position to donate I hope you'll still join me as a cheerleader on this journey...encouraging words, carbs and jelly babies all gratefully received :)
