Amersham Town Council is raising funds to install a Legend on the Bench bench at Woodside Close, Amersham, replacing one of the existing tired and worn benches on the green.

The new bench is designed to offer comfort, reflection and hope for anyone affected by suicide, mental health challenges, or the loss of a loved one.

It will provide a quiet and supportive space where people can pause, remember, and feel connected to others who may have faced similar experiences. The bench will serve as a visible reminder that no one in our community is alone, and that support, understanding and compassion are always within reach.

Each bench includes details of organisations that can listen, help and support anyone who may be struggling. Practical helpline information is displayed directly on the bench, ensuring support is always accessible — both for those who have been affected in the past and for anyone who may need help in the future.

A built-in light will act as a gentle beacon of hope, providing comfort and visibility at any time of day or night, symbolising that someone is always there to listen.

This is a community-focused project, with the fundraising target representing 50% of the total cost of purchasing and installing the bench. Past Mayor Councillor Dominic Pinkney has kindly agreed to contribute £1,300 from his Mayor’s Fund, helping to ensure the bench can be delivered for the benefit of the whole community.

Every donation will go directly towards creating a meaningful project.
