Leigh's fundraiser for The Elsa Corp Project

Leigh Smyth is raising money for The Friends of Butoke Charity
In memory of Elsa Corp

Run 200kms in February (average 7.2km every day) · 1 February 2026

We raised funds for Butoke, an NGO in the DRC. Butoke works with some of the poorest people on earth, providing them with healthcare, food security, and education. It also works to protect the rights of the most vulnerable in the communities it serves, in particular women and girls.

Story

The Elsa Corp Project (supporting The Friends of Butoke Charity) was created by a very special family that I have the privilege to call my friends. I met them in February 2010 when their beautiful Elsa was tragically taken from them by a man she met on a blind date. I was the lead investigator and have been in touch with Andy, Gilly & Danny ever since.

Though a tragedy that will never be forgotten, it enabled me to meet three very special people. In 2021 in Elsa's honour the family began a project to raise funds for this very worthwhile charity. It is a UK charity to help girls who have been victims of sexual assault in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Over the past 5 years they have raised over $26,500 AUD, 100% of which has gone to 32 girls for medical treatment, food, clothing, and legal fees to prosecute their attackers. In 2025, they helped another 6 girls, but sadly there are many more who need assistance. My aim is to assist the Corp family in raising $5000 AUD to go to the Elsa Corp Project.

As my part of the fundraising efforts, I will be running 200km in the month of February (average 7.2km per day) and completing over 600,000 steps. Our two new rescue dogs (Ed & Zazu) should make this an easy task!! I hope that you will consider assisting me in my efforts to raise funds for this very noble cause.
