Story
We are thrilled to share our journey as we prepare for the Maidenhead Lions 41st Annual Swimarathon on January 11, 2026. Our Assisted Swimming Group, a proud initiative of Leisure Focus, provides a unique opportunity for children and adults with physical disabilities and neurogenic diagnoses to experience the joy of swimming in a supportive and tranquil environment. Each week, we gather at the Leisure Centre, utilizing 9 out of the 10 lanes along with the children's small pool, creating a safe haven for our swimmers.
Our swimming numbers have really grown and we have welcomed individuals with diverse challenges such as spinal injuries, amputations, autism, cerebral palsy, and many more. This growth is made possible by our dedicated team of volunteers who selflessly assist our swimmers in every way they can. Together, we have been training diligently over the past three weeks by collectively swimming the equivalent of a 22-mile channel crossing. We are excited to showcase our efforts in this fabulous event that brings us all together every year.
