Story
On 1st March 2026, I’ll be setting off on the adventure of a lifetime, walking from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money for Brain Tumour Research in memory of a very special boy, Ollie Gardiner.
I had the privilege of meeting Ollie and his wonderful family Peter, Jane and Theo when I worked for Quilter. During that time, I helped with fundraising efforts for Ollie and together we raised nearly £80,000 to support his treatment and research. Sadly, Ollie’s story didn’t have the outcome we all hoped for but his courage, warmth and zest for life left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
Since then, the Gardiner family have continued to support Brain Tumour Research, donating some of those funds to help advance vital studies. This walk is a way of continuing that legacy. To honour Ollie, to support his family’s incredible efforts and to raise awareness of this devastating disease that affects so many but receives so little attention.
It would be fair to say, I am far from being a natural athlete but I am determined to take on this 1200 mile challenge one step at a time. I have the help of my wonderful husband David (chief driver, cook, and cheerleader!) and my faithful rucksack Minty.
This is very much a team adventure. I’ll walk north from Land’s End and David will be my support crew all the way up. Transporting me to start points, picking me up at the end of each day, keeping me fed and cheering me on.
Once I reach John O’Groats, we will swap roles. David will get on his bike and cycle all the way back south, while I’ll be his driver, cook, and biggest fan. We hope to complete both adventures by the end of June 2026.
💬 Why Brain Tumour Research?
Brain tumours kill more children and adults under 40 than any other cancer in the UK, yet research into them receives just a small fraction of national cancer research funding. That needs to change and with your help, we can make a difference.

This journey is about more than miles. It’s about continuing Ollie’s legacy, standing beside his family in spirit and walking towards a future where fewer families have to face what they did.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and belief that together we can make a difference.
With love and gratitude,
Christina, David & Minty 💛
