Lemur Howl-O-Ween - World Lemur Day 2025 at Shepreth Wildlife Park · 31 October 2025

Shepreth Wildlife Conservation Charity was established in 2011 to help fundraise for important work both home and abroad. The organisation raises funds and educates visitors about species which are threatened with extinction, and also plays a major role in funding the Shepreth Hedgehog Hospital.

Story

Lemurs are the most diverse group of primates with 112 species spread across five families. Sadly, they are also the most threatened group of mammals on the planet.

98% of lemur species are in danger of extinction with one in three species classed as Critically Endangered. Wild lemurs are found in only one place on Earth, the island of Madagascar, but the fight to save them takes place both in and ex-situ.

Zoos and research scientists may not appear to be obvious partners but there is an ongoing and growing collaboration between the two in sharing skills, knowledge and, above all, in trying to save the amazing wild animals we both care so deeply about.

Lemur Howl-O-Ween - World Lemur Day 2025 is a fundraising collaboration between Shepreth Wildlife Park and Oxford Brookes University to help save this beautiful and unique group of primates.

Through our World Lemur Day events at both the park and the university we invite you to enjoy learning more about these fantastic animals while also helping to conserve them and understand the problems they face.

Any money we raise will go directly to help conservation work in south eastern Madagascar and the lemurs that live there. In previous years, our fundraising has:

• Provided vital equipment for the ranger teams at Ampasy Field Station.

• Funded a genomic study of endangered collared brown lemurs.

• Funded community work and education exploring attitudes and beliefs towards aye-ayes and how these might interact with conservation efforts.

Conservation works, we just need more of it and with your support we can keeping making it happen.
