Story
On 6th April, Lesley, Natalie and Beryl will be running/ walking the London Landmarks half marathon on behalf of Bowel Research UK. We are calling ourselves ‘Team Lesley’ to recognise the journey that Lesley has been on. Natalie is Lesley’s niece and Beryl is her cousin.
In October 2023, Lesley was diagnosed with rectal cancer. It was picked up via the FIT test that is sent out by the NHS to people of a certain age! Lesley was 62 and had shown no symptoms at all, so it was a huge shock to her family and friends, particularly as Lesley had lost her wonderful husband, Tom, to cancer in 2019.
Lesley underwent a Low Anterior Resection in November 2023, resulting in an ileostomy (called Moaning Myrtle, as she kept grumbling).
In July 2024 she underwent a reversal, and is now recovering well.
Lesley feels that she owes Bowel Research UK for saving her life, so this challenge is to raise money to support their cause in funding new treatments and potential cures.
