Story
Hello friends,
A year ago, I began a two-year instructor training programme with Rock UK. Its Christian roots go back to 1922, when a group of London Sunday school teachers took children who had never been on holiday to the coast. More than a century later, the charity remains rooted in its Christian faith, helping young people have fun, grow in confidence and discover new abilities through outdoor adventure. In January 2027, I'll be travelling to Lesotho with 17 other Rock UK outdoor instructors to help run an adventure camp for young carers. To support the centre's work, I'm taking on an 80km challenge and I'd love your support.
Going to Lesotho will take me well outside my comfort zone-a new country, a different culture and people I haven't met yet. But I'll also be sharing something I love: outdoor adventure. I'm excited to get to know the young people and help them discover the enjoyment and confidence these activities can bring. We'll be staying at the Lesotho-Durham Link Outdoor Activity Centre, near the capital, Maseru. Working alongside local instructors, we'll help prepare the centre and run a camp giving young carers a break from their everyday responsibilities-a chance to have fun and just be children. The camp will include activities such as archery, climbing, abseiling and canoeing, alongside time to explore the Christian faith and learn about God's love for them.
My target is £300, which will help buy equipment for the Lesotho-Durham Link Outdoor Activity Centre, supporting its work with young people throughout the year. Rock UK is covering our travel costs, so this appeal is for equipment for the centre.
On 6 November 2026, I'm joining Castle to Cathedral, a challenge organised by my centre, Carroty Wood. We'll travel from Tonbridge Castle to Canterbury Cathedral under our own steam:
. Paddle 13km along the River Medway, from Tonbridge to Yalding.
. Cycle 55km through the North Downs, following the Pilgrims' Way.
. Hike 12km to finish at Canterbury Cathedral.
That's 80km of paddling, cycling and walking to support the centre's work with young people in Lesotho. If you're able to help me reach my £300 target, I'd be very grateful. Please also pray for our fundraising challenge, the trip, and the children and local instructors we'll be spending time with.
Thank you for your support!
