Story
In 2021 I was fortunate enough to secure a place to run the London Marathon on behalf of MS Society. Unfortunately, my Dad was diagnosed with Cancer around the same time and as such I deferred my marathon place as it was not the right time to commit to such a big undertaking (and whilst he is still on the journey, things have improved).
Three years on and I have decided to not only take on the London Marathon, but an even bigger running challenge, all to raise funds for MS Society, as well as raising awareness of the organisation and Multiple Sclerosis.
Therefore, I have set myself a challenge to run 880 miles in a timebound period. I have chosen this figure as it is the number of individuals within my age bracket who are diagnosed with MS each year. The challenge will be bookended with two significant running events; it will begin on April 21st with the London Marathon and finish on September 29th with another Marathon event (I am hoping this will be Berlin Marathon). Ultimately this means, I will have 23 weeks to run 880 miles!
My plan includes lots of organised races including the Great North Run, as I have secured a place on behalf of MS Society.
I ran the 2019 London Marathon on behalf of MS Society so I am fully aware how hard, both physically and mentally, a marathon is. This challenge will be another level, however my reason for fundraising for MS remains the same – my Mum.
My Mum was diagnosed with MS over 10 years ago. While she is determined to maintain an active lifestyle her underlying symptoms can at times prevent her from doing so. However, she lives by the philosophy ‘I might have MS but MS doesn’t define me’.
MS is a life-long neurological condition which damages nerves in the brain and the spinal cord, as it is still incurable. However by 2025 the MS Society aims to be at a stage to test new life changing treatments - every penny helps towards that.
My Mum has supported me in everything I do, so this is my way of helping to support her by raising money for vital research to find a cure for this disease.
Every donation, no matter the size, is greatly appreciated and all helps spur me on to train and complete this challenge I have set myself!
Thank you for reading, and thanks in advance for any donations. Please remember to leave your name on your donation so I can thank you!
And if anyone fancies joining me for a run at any point over the next few months, please reach out! Company will always be welcome!
