Story
Lexi and Ewan's Twogether for Beat:
Due to our shared past experience of suffering with eating disorders, and the impact they have had on our lives and mental health, this year we have decided take part in Beat's Twogether fundraising event.
Beat are the UK’s eating disorder charity. Founded in 1989 as the Eating Disorders Association, their mission is to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders. Beat supports anyone with an eating disorder, their friends and family, as well as professionals working with or worried about an individual in their care.
These serious mental health illnesses include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID). 1.25 million people in the UK have a diagnosed eating disorder, and a recent NHS study estimated that 12.5% of 17-19 year-olds have an eating disorder in England alone. They affect people of all ages and backgrounds, with up to one in four sufferers being male. Eating disorders cost the UK's economy £16.8 billion each year, and more often than not stem from, or lead to, other mental health difficulties such as severe anxiety, depression, self harm and suicidal ideation.
To raise money for Beat and awareness of eating disorders, we have decided to create a painting together. This painting will be in dedication to the recovery journeys we have both been on, and will feature many of the things that have brought us together since our relationship began last year.
