Story
I will be running the London Royal Parks Half Marathon with my 83-year old mother-in-law to raise funds so more children in the world can go to school.
My mother-in-law grew up in rural Spain and received only a rudimentary education at a time when access to a local school was limited and the needs of the farm were considered greater than her schooling.
Whilst that scenario is now thankfully in the distant past for children growing up in the western world, over 240 million children around the world still don’t have access to an education today.
United World Schools (UWS) builds and supports schools for children who live in some of the most remote places on earth in a highly effective and results driven model which costs just £100 to educate a child for a year.
I become involved in UWS because I have benefitted enormously from my education and I’ve often wondered where I would be without that opportunity. I am proud to be running alongside my mother-in-law who has seen the power of education transform the lives of her children and now her grandchildren.
Education is a superpower and I hope you will join Raquel and me in helping to reach more children in marginalized communities where education has for too long been a privilege rather than a right.
