Story
Thanks for visiting my donation page and yes you did read the title correctly. I have never run for more than a bus, but in 2024 I will be running the London Marathon in aid of MediCinema, an incredible charity who build and operate cinemas within hospitals across the UK. I am reassured that seven months is enough time to train with the right diet and plan, so follow along as I put this to the test.
I was lucky enough to visit the MediCinema in Guy's Hospital, London in August 2023 and was blown away by the entire experience. The team are so friendly and passionate, and care deeply about the patients they see. The cinema is immaculate and well-maintained, and they show latest releases when they come out (if not before!) thanks to their partnerships with the film studios. MediCinema operate independently of the NHS too, supporting patients through donations and fundraising efforts just like this one.
I would encourage you to visit their website to learn more, and I cannot think of a more worthy cause. I am grateful for anything you can afford to contribute, and will update this page and my Instagram @liamforkes with my journey. Thank you in advance!
About MediCinema
MediCinema is a charity which improves the wellbeing and quality of life of NHS patients, and their families, through the power of the shared cinema experience and the magic of film. We build and run cinemas in hospitals equipped with space for beds, wheelchairs, and medical equipment. Our services act as an intervention for social isolation, loneliness and anxiety which helps to increase patient resilience.
Through the latest and best the film industry has to offer, MediCinema engages and uplifts like no other. Utilising the power of cinema to enable patients, many of whom will be experiencing complex and long term hospital stays, to experience some sense of normality and reduce both the isolation and marginalisation they may be feeling.
MediCinema are independent of the NHS and funded entirely by donations. 42% of donations from individuals, 40% from Trusts and Foundations and 18% from corporate partners. You can learn more about them on their website: https://www.medicinema.org.uk/.
About MPLC
MPLC has represented Hollywood studios like Disney, Universal, Paramount, Pixar, Marvel Studios and Dreamworks for over 35 years. These studios, together with hundreds more independent film and TV producers, have appointed MPLC to collect licence revenue from non-theatrical venues – that’s the industry term for places that show movies and TV in public spaces but are not traditional cinemas. MPLC is now the largest non-theatrical TV and movie licensing company in the world.
MPLC was founded in 1985 by a former vice-president of Paramount Pictures and MGM. They now have offices in 28 countries with their headquarters split between the UK and USA. Their UK home is in Eastbourne in East Sussex, and in the USA are based, as you might expect, in Los Angeles next to many of the Hollywood studios that MPLC represent. You can learn more about them on their website: https://uk.mplc.com/.
