Story
My name is Liam McCall and I am proud to be supporting Rockets Community Foundation, the charity arm of Cramlington Rockets.
Next year, I will be cycling 1500 miles to raise £1500 to help fund a defibrillator and stand for our community.
Every year, thousands of people suffer cardiac arrests outside of hospitals and the chances of survival are shockingly low. Without immediate CPR, only around 5 to 10 percent survive. But when a defibrillator is available and used quickly, survival rates can rise to between 50 and 70 percent. Having one on site and used straight away rather than waiting for paramedics can literally double or triple someone’s chance of surviving.
Rockets Community Foundation is so much more than just a sports organisation, it is a community hub that brings people together from all walks of life. This piece of life saving equipment could one day make the difference for a player, volunteer, parent, or visitor to The Launchpad.
There are too many heartbreaking stories of lives that could have been saved if a defibrillator had been nearby. During my ride, I will be speaking with athletes, coaches, and health professionals whose lives have been touched by cardiac arrest, whether they have used a defibrillator to save someone, been saved by one themselves, or lost someone who did not have that chance.
By sharing their stories, I hope to raise awareness of how vital this equipment is, not just in sport, but in everyday life, and how it affects the people and communities we care about most.
I would really appreciate your support. Whether it is donating, sharing, or simply helping spread the word, every bit of help brings us closer to making our community a safer place for everyone.
Together, we can save lives.
