Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In May 2026, I will be running the Edinburgh Marathon in memory of my grandad, John Leighton.
After fighting stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma with immense tenacity and enduring months of chemotherapy through 2025, John went into remission. Sadly, after a series of further illnesses, he unfortunately passed away in August 2025, surrounded by family. We were initially told the first 48 hours of hospital care would be crucial, but he showed remarkable strength and defied expectations, giving us precious extra weeks together and even returning to his care home for a short time.
My grandad meant so much to me and to everyone who knew him. As a passionate driving instructor for many years, he made a lasting difference to so many people — teaching with patience, kindness, and humour, often making his pupils laugh and smile through a time many find stressful.
Running this marathon is my way of honouring his memory and raising money for Cancer Research UK, so that others affected by lymphoma can get the help and support they need. I will be tracking my progress until the race date through Strava and Instagram.
Any donation, no matter the size, will make a difference. Thank you so much for supporting me and helping me keep my grandad’s memory alive.
