Story
On Saturday 5th April 2025, I started my Coast to Coast Walk, beginning in St Bees, Cumbria.
The Coast to Coast walk I followed, is as defined by Alfred Wainwright, and has been walked several times since he did it by many keen hikers. The route begins at St Bees, Cumbria and finishes in Robin Hood's Bay, Yorkshire, a total of 192 miles.
I originally split the walk into two sections, and then three, because I couldn't find two consecutive weeks before August to do this, and I couldn't wait until then - I was itching to get going!
I self-funded this walk, all donations going directly to The Alzheimer's Society. Mum spent the last five years of her life living with me and my two youngest children, who were teenagers at the time. It was wonderful to see my mum every day, but extremely difficult to witness her decline. She was a very beautiful and glamorous woman, but as dementia took a hold of her, she steadily declined to become a shadow of her former self. Dementia is such an insidious disease and so many families have been affected by it, seeing their loved ones suffer in such an awful way; the grieving process begins way before their family member passes. Alzheimer’s Society is working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. They do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future.
I completed the first section, St Bees to Shap, in April 2025. The second section was completed in May 2025, Shap to Danby Wiske. The third section will be completed in July 2025, Danby Wiske to Robin Hood's Bay.

Please support me on my walk by donating to The Alzheimer's Society. Your donation, however large or small, will be gratefully appreciated. Please check in and read about my adventures. Once I have completed The Coast To Coast Walk, I will make a final appeal for donations to The Alzheimer's Society and will then close this particular fundraiser. I will however be doing further walks, but will start a separate fundraiser for those.
