I will be taking part in the Manchester half marathon on 13th October to raise money for Inflammatory Breast Cancer UK.

My Auntie Dawn was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) in September 2023. IBC is a rare and aggressive breast cancer and Dawn did everything in her power to overcome this awful disease. Dawn experienced the most difficult challenges in her 9 month battle.

When I spoke to my Auntie Dawn after she was diagnosed, she told me about IBC UK and how she could only receive help from funds raised by this charity and could not receive any help from funds raised by other breast cancer charity’s. This one conversation stuck with me and gave me a sense of urgency to help my Auntie Dawn and others diagnosed with IBC which sparked my idea of running to raise money.

When dawn was diagnosed, we were shocked to find out how little research and funding was available, only 2% of breast cancers are diagnosed as IBC.

Alongside her own fight it was Dawns mission to raise awareness about IBC and to raise funds in aid of Inflammatory Breast Cancer UK which will enable much needed research at the Birmingham University Hospital.
