Story
Alzheimer's Society is a charity aimed at helping people living with dementia and their loved ones. Alzheimer's is a devastating disease, affecting so much more than just a persons memory, gradually spreading through the brain and taking away their cognitive function. The impact of this is life changing as a person slowly loses the ability to converse, reason, empathise, control their emotions, and ultimately loses themselves.
I have experienced the impact of this personally as my nan has been suffering with Alzheimers disease for a number of years and I have watched it drastically change a person I love. My grandfather has also been recently diagnosed, and they have both recently had to move into a care home due to the disease rendering them unable to live safely in their own home.
Me and two friends, Joe and Gia, have decided to take on this huge task of raising £450 each as a part of the Alzheimer's Society Skydive Day, which will be taking place on the 24th of May in Swansea. We hope to raise as much money as we can to help get those living with dementia and their loved ones the vital support and care they need, as well as bring awareness to dementia and its lesser known impacts.
We will be doing lots of other activities for the cause in the run up to the skydive, such as bake sales (as pictured in the photo gallery), so keep an eye out for us!
