On Sunday 25th May, our incredible team of runners are taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival to help end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders!

Story

On the 25th May 2025, the three of us will be running a combined total of 84.4 km or 52.4 miles to raise money for a charity that is incredibly close to all of our hearts; Beat.

Julie and Emily will both be running the Edinburgh Half Marathon whilst Ed will be tackling the Edinburgh Marathon because he's a smart arse who never learns.

As some of you will be aware, disordered eating has affected our family for a number of years and we owe an awful lot to both Beat and the NHS for how they have helped. From help and direct action for those directly affected, to support and advice for family, we really don't think that we would have ever neared the other side without them.

Beat is the UK's eating disorders charity. We exist to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders. We are a champion, guide and friend to anyone affected, giving individuals experiencing an eating disorder and their loved ones a place where they feel listened to, supported and empowered.

We predict 1.25 million people are affected by these serious mental illnesses. Eating disorders can be deeply isolating for the people affected by them. Our online support groups and training for carers allow people to talk to others with similar experiences, helping them to feel less alone with their eating disorder. We run phone and email helplines for anyone who needs us. Often when people get in touch its the first time they've voiced their concerns about themselves or a loved one.

A little bit from Emily:

Beat has truly been a lifesaver; literally. They supported my parents through an impossible time for our family, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I became ill when I was about 13 and have struggled for a long time. I’m currently writing this while eating a pizza, feeling happy and free from my eating disorder; something I once thought would never be possible. I’m so grateful now to be what I’d consider fully recovered, and I wouldn’t be here without Beat and the support from my incredible parents and wonderful brother. I’m not only running the Edinburgh Half to raise money for Beat, but also for myself, to prove that my body can do amazing things while being properly fueled. I want to say a huge thank you to Beat for all the incredible work they do, but also to my fantastic family and friends for never giving up on me. I love you all endlessly.
