Story
Earlier this year, my life changed completely when I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML). At the time, I was studying Childhood Studies at university, working towards a career I’ve always been passionate about. My treatment has meant putting university and my plans on hold, and I’ve had to miss my graduation — something I never imagined I wouldn’t be there for.
Despite everything, I was determined to finish what I had started. I completed my dissertation from my hospital bed, surrounded by hospital beeps, treatment and countless cups of tea! It was definitely not how I pictured finishing university, but it’s something I’m incredibly proud of.
I’ve spent a lot of time in hospital throughout my journey, and I’ve found comfort in the little things I love — reading, diamond art and all sorts of creative activities. I’ve even managed to bring some of that creativity into the hospital by bedazzling the nurses name badges, which has been one of the little things that has made hospital life feel a bit brighter!
I am now waiting for my stem cell transplant, and the most amazing news is that I have found my donor. Knowing that there is someone out there willing to donate their stem cells and give me another chance at life means more to me than I could ever put into words.
I have also been incredibly lucky to have the most amazing family and friends supporting me through every step of this journey. Their love, kindness and encouragement have carried me through some of the hardest days.
Now, I want to give something back. The charity I am raising money for has supported me throughout my journey and has helped make an incredibly difficult time a little easier.
After everything they have done for me, I feel it’s now my turn to give back and help them continue supporting other people and families facing cancer.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, means so much to me and will help make a difference. Thank you for supporting me, believing in me and being part of my journey.
