Story

On Sunday 10 November I’m running my first ever half marathon!

I’m running both for my wonderful Dad, Michael Lofty, and for a very important organisation who support him. In 2021 my Dad was diagnosed with an asbestos related disease called mesothelioma (or meso, as we call it) which is found in the lining of the lung. There are approximately 2500 cases of mesothelioma diagnosed in the UK each year - we’d never heard of it prior to his diagnosis. Ever since then we’ve been working as a family to support my Dad to live with this relatively rare and complicated diagnosis.

I’m raising money for HASAG, a charity dedicated to supporting those affected by asbestos-related diseases, including meso, throughout the South of England, South East, London and Home Counties.

HASAG provide a complete source of help to anyone with an asbestos-related disease and their loved ones - this includes support, counselling, information, coffee mornings, help with benefits and help with compensation claims. HASAG have also been able to part-fund 4 specialist Mesothelioma UK nurses in the South and East of England in partnership with Mesothelioma UK.

HASAG regularly donate to hospices throughout the South that offer asbestos patients and their families care, support and compassion at a very difficult time.

Any money you donate will go directly to supporting the charity, and support their fundraising for research organisations such as Mesothelioma UK.

Thank you so much for your support!
