Story

Hello 😊 My 57 year old dad was diagnosed with MND in the summer of 2024 after uncertainty for almost a year. Since his diagnosis my dad has been forced to retire early which I know he has found incredibly difficult both physically and mentally. He is the most stubborn and determined man I’ve ever known, despite his physical limitations. Yet, I admire his bravery to take everything in his stride so much. It has felt incredibly difficult at times for us as a family, however we are all determined to always make the most out of what life throws at us. We all love him so deeply and I want to be able to contribute to a cause which aims to tackle a disease that can take away so much. He truly is the most amazing dad, one I’d do anything for.

In support of my dad’s diagnosis, my brother and I, as well as a few of our friends, will be running the Cardiff half marathon to raise money for the MND association. It is obviously something very close to both mine and my brother’s heart and we would appreciate anyone who is prepared, or able, to donate money to this charity to hopefully one day find a cure.

Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting.

MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. However, not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone and it is unlikely they will all develop at the same time, or in any specific order.

Although there is currently no cure for MND, symptoms can be managed to help you achieve the best possible quality of life.

Thank you so much to anyone that takes the time to read and donate, I am so grateful ❤️
