Story
We are running our first 10k in aid of The 8:56 foundation, in memory of our dad Perry Wilks who sadly took his own life at the start of 2018.
Leaving behind a loving family, we are running to raise funds and awareness so other family's don't have to go through our heartache.
Perry didn't really show any signs of struggling with mental health issues, he would make jokes often and we would normally see him in a good mood, we didn't think anything could touch him because he was larger than life to us kids because he was our dad but now, looking back after he's gone and now that we've gotten a bit older we think there was little signs that we should've noticed like how nearer the end he became more reserved, he started to look like the weight of the world was on top of him, how he often started staring off into the distance, it's like he changed.
We love our dad and he will still be the strongest man we will ever know, in our opinion if he was struggling with mental health issues then anyone on this planet could be, check in on your loved ones even if they seem alright because we have no idea what's going on in someone else's head.
The 8:56 Foundation is a Men’s Mental Health charity dedicated to raising awareness, strengthening support, and breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health.
Donations and funding is used to campaign to raise awareness, invest into mental health research, host wellbeing events, fund support for talking therapy and invest in mental health training.
