Story
In loving memory of my beautiful mum, Dorothy Burgoyne 💜
In December 2024, at the age of 87, we said goodbye to my lovely mum after her long and heartbreaking battle with vascular dementia. Watching someone you love slowly fade, losing pieces of who they are, is something no family is ever truly prepared for. Mum was kind, gentle, warm, and full of life — and even as the disease took hold, those tiny glimpses of her gentle spirit never truly disappeared.
Vascular dementia is a cruel illness. It doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed; it impacts entire families, leaving behind emotional, physical, and financial challenges. The need for compassionate care, dedicated carers, specialist support, and continued research has never been greater.
That’s why my husband and I will be running the Chorley 10K this May in her memory. We’re hoping to raise vital funds for Dementia UK and Alzheimer’s charities — organisations that provide essential support to families like ours and work tirelessly towards better treatments and, one day, a cure.
If you have ever known someone affected by dementia, you’ll understand just how devastating it can be. Any donation, no matter how small, would mean so much. Your support will help fund care, support carers, improve specialist services, and contribute to crucial research.
We’re running for Mum. We’re running for every family facing this journey, and we’re running with hope 💜
Thank you so much for your kindness and support.
