Story
On 26th January 2023 - for my 60th birthday - I will be setting out to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. I'm taking on the challenge to raise funds for the Beatson Cancer Charity, who cared for my wonderful late mum Jan Quinn with incredible kindness and compassion. Money raised will support the charity's fantastic work in helping cancer patients and their families.
This is the challenge of a lifetime. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest freestanding mountain in the world at 5895 metres (19710 feet).
Along with my husband Derek and cousins George and Shan, we will be trekking and camping for nine days, attempting to summit in extreme conditions with temperatures of minus 20, snow, high winds and 48% less oxygen.
About half of all attempts fail due to altitude sickness. I will be battling the odds, as I have a lung condition (bronchiectasis), chronic migraines and - over the last year - a chronic leg injury. However, I am determined to do this and give something back to the Beatson Cancer Charity.
Please support me by donating - you can do it easily on this page. Even the smallest contribution will go a long way to helping a cause that means the world to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
THIS CHALLENGE IS ENTIRELY SELF FUNDED SO EVERY PENNY RAISED GOES DIRECTLY TO THE BEATSON CANCER CHARITY
