Having a low grade glioma brain tumour is like having a ticking time bomb in your head. Ever since my lovely, witty, smart and incredibly clever son was diagnosed with such a tumour, 16 years ago, we have all been living with the fear of it detonating. These rare tumours affect more children and young people under the age of 40 than any other cancer and yet are described as the 'underfunded of the underfunded'. It’s a sad fact that 86% of those diagnosed will die within the first five years. We are aware that David has been so very lucky.

Since his diagnosis, I have campaigned, lobbied parliament and raised funds for research into this very rare type of brain tumour that he has. Those who know me will know that am an elderly and somewhat conservative lady who has always been more than a tad averse to tattoos and suchlike and, indeed, swore I would NEVER ever get one! However, I have been mercilessly provoked and teased by my family, and a couple of other people who shall remain nameless, into capitulating and I will be doing the dreaded deed just before Christmas. Don’t get too excited because it won’t be huge…it will be the tiniest one I can get away with. 😆. I actually can’t quite believe I have said I will but I can’t back out now!
