I am running York marathon on 19 October to raise funds for Wildlife SOS https://wildlifesos.org/.

Wildlife SOS is a charity which ticks all the boxes for me. I worked with the co-founders in 2000 when the charity was 5 years old and I returned to volunteer at the elephant and bear sanctuaries in November 2024 and have been volunteering with them since. Their achievements are massive: all of India’s dancing bears had been rescued, but not only that, their owners rehabilitated through support from WSOS to set up new businesses and their families supported through education and medical care. All of this means that they will never return to treating animals cruelly again. In fact, 80% of their employees are from the communities which previously worked the animals, now taking great care of them.

WSOS then turned their attention to rescuing working elephants. They have cared for 100+ elephants at their sanctuaries, built the first elephant hospital in India, have put a mobile hospital on the road to take treatment to where it’s needed and they send an ambulance when an elephant needs rescuing.

Oh and they also rescue other animals throughout India - including leopards and reptiles - and run several 24/7 animal rescue hotlines.

They work on environment and biodiversity conservation and actively work to reduce their carbon footprint.

I am proud to be running York marathon to support the work of this amazing charity. Anything you can donate will go a long way, no amount is too little.
