Story
I have been working with FareShare Greater Manchester for a year now and during that time, it’s been a privilege to meet the amazing charities and community groups we serve.
Last year, I ran the Great Manchester 10K with a ‘one time only’ mindset. On the finish line my son said “I’m really proud of you Mum, when you run it next year, I’ll do it with you!” I couldn’t say no to that could I? So here we are, almost 12 months on, and the pair of us are running it in aid of FareShare Greater Manchester.
Last summer, after his GCSEs, my son volunteered in the FSGM warehouse and got to witness the vast amount of surplus good-to-eat food that we redistribute to so many amazing organisations who serve their communities with food. It’s really humbling to meet the amazing people who use this food to help people who really need it.
We need funds to be able to keep our vans on the roads and pay for other overheads. Without funding we would not be able to help the 250+ community groups we support each year. From school breakfast clubs to groups supporting senior citizens, food banks & community pantries, homeless charities and more, they all need our help.
Here’s a little bit more information about what we do:
Environmental charity, EMERGE 3Rs runs FareShare Greater Manchester and Give and Gain. Through our work we support thousands of people across our region every year to gain access to food, employment and training and significantly help to reduce waste and carbon emissions. In 2023/24 FareShare GM redistributed almost 2,000 tonnes of food which contributed to 4.6 million meals via 306 charities, community groups and schools who use the food to support those in need.
Any donations to this fundraiser would be greatly appreciated, and will help us carry on this important work!
Thank you 💚
