Story
FareShare Greater Manchester redistributes good-to-eat surplus food from the food industry to save it from going to waste and gets is out to charities and community groups across Greater Manchester who serve their communities with food. Without their delivery vans they would not be able to do that. I'm raising funds to replace one of their delivery vans.
Last year, FareShare Greater Manchester rescued 2,000 tonnes of perfectly good-to-eat surplus food from going to waste and redistributed it to more than 290 charities and community organisations across our city and beyond. In real terms, that is the equivalent of 4.72 million meals which were enjoyed by people who really needed them instead of being wasted.
FareShare Greater Manchester is a lifeline to many organisations who are serving their local community with food, from school breakfast clubs to elderly luncheon clubs, homeless shelters to community food pantries & food banks. They rely on an ageing fleet of vans, to make deliveries out to the 60 groups each week who can’t collect from the warehouse. However, our van fleet is wearing out, one of them is 17 years old, another has done 235,000 miles, so there’s an urgent need to replace them.
In January 2026, I'm going to walk 65 miles (the equivalent of the Wigan and Atherton delivery round) and am asking for sponsorship to do this please. 65 miles is the equivalent of 104.6km to be walked during the month of January.
I started my mission with a climb to the top of Rivington Pike (very close to the Wigan and Atherton Round) on 3rd January and aim to walk or run the rest of the distance this month.
Any sponsorship you are able to pledge would be very gratefully received.
Thank you!
