Lis's Wing Walking for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People

Lis Whitehouse is raising money for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People
In memory of Erinne Reva Budd

Wing Walk · 19 June 2026

As the East Midlands’ only hospice for children and young people, we brighten the short lives of babies, children and young people who come to Rainbows. We want them to have fun and make special memories. We are also here to support their loved ones through the most difficult times of their lives.

Story

Flying high for Erinne and for Rainbows 🌈

The 19th of June 2026 will mark 366 days since my beautiful niece passed away. To commemorate Erinne, i am turning grief into giving, choosing bravery over heartache and remembering love over loss.

On this day I will be taking on a challenge that I think Erinne would have put my name down for, a wing walk: yes I’ll be standing on top of a plane, soaring through the sky at anywhere between 100 and 700ft, between 80 and 110mph. It’s bold, it’s daring and it’s definitely out of my comfort zone but that’s why I’m doing it. Erinne loved anything that broke the rules of ordinary so this feels perfect, scary but perfect. She faced every day with courage and a cheeky smile so this is my way of honouring her fearless spirit whilst raising money for an incredible cause.

I’m fundraising for Rainbows Hospice, an incredible place that gave Erinne and her family care, comfort and unforgettable memories during the hardest time.

Erinne was just 6 years old when she was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour. In spring 2024, she received radiotherapy which thankfully gave her time to live life to the fullest and make memories for us all to cherish forever.

Rainbows was introduced to Erinne as a fun and happy place - and she absolutely loved it. They understood that making memories and having fun was the priority. Her favourite things were the swimming pool and the music room, where she was encouraged to splash, play and make noise which very much appealed to her cheeky nature!

Erinne’s symptoms returned in early 2025 and despite more radiotherapy, the tumour continued to progress. Even then, Erinne was determined to help the Rainbows cause and held her own bake sale and teddy tombola to raise money for them. That was who she was - kind, brave and full of ideas even in the shadow of her own adversity.

Rainbows stepped up to ensure Erinne could be cared for at home whilst still accessing services from the hospice to keep her smiling. They supported Erinne’s parents through every stage and they continue to support the family now.

Erinne sadly passed away in June 2025, but her spirit and love for Rainbows lives on. I want to honour her with an extraordinary challenge, helping this amazing hospice continue its vital work for other children and families.

Every donation, big or small makes a difference. Please help me to support Rainbows and do Erinne proud.
