Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 7th April we will all be joining tens of thousands of runners taking on the French capital - Paris. The marathon will take us through some of the capitals legendary streets as well as its iconic monument
We are all determined to finish and run the full 26.3 miles. We are under no illusion this will be a challenge but we are also determined to raise some money for these amazing charities. Every penny will help make a difference.
Lisa Blackburn reason………
I have chosen this charity as unfortunately too many of us know somebody, whether that maybe a family member , close friend or an acquaintance who is fighting this disease.
I lost my grandad to lung cancer in 2008, this was heartbreaking but as a young adult my family protected me and my sister from a lot including the real journey that they had encountered. In July 2022, I had to experience the real journey, when my sister called, my Brother- in- law had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. As a family we pulled together and supported each other. This journey was real for sure……My brother- in- law is now low- risk, some life changes had to be made. He still continues to keep the cancer controlled with active surveillance. As he grows strong the cancer continues to be weak.
In December 2022, yes the same year, I was told more upsetting news that my mum had breast and lung cancer. As a family our journey with mum has been a horrible roller coaster ride. Seeing my mum fighting the battle with cancer, along with her treatment of chemo and radiation has been very difficult, we have experienced many emotions along the way.
Then in July 2023, my dad, (my mums only 24/7 support) was diagnosed with prostate cancer. As you can imagine this news was devastating. Dad started his journey with the recommend treatment- surgery. He’s responded well, with recent tests and scans at present confirming he is cancer free. A great result.
My mum’s treatment has come to end and unfortunately the cancer has not responded to her therapy. Our aim now is to continue to make as many memories as possible with her and appreciate the time we have. My mum is the main reason I have taken on this challenge……
It’s a challenge of a lifetime but as a team we are going to tackle this head on. Lisa and Rachel have supported me and have been there no matter what. I am lucky to have them in my world as friends. We are lucky to have each others support through the training. We hope to cross the finish line together.
Thank you in advance for your support and for your kind donation.
