Story

On 26th April 2026, I’ll be running the London Marathon.

I will be running the Marathon in honour of my brother-in-law Matt, who tragically lost his battle with mental health three years ago.

Incredibly, the marathon falls on the exact anniversary of his passing, making this run so meaningful. This isn’t just a race—it’s a tribute to his memory, a way to honour his life, and to turn grief into purpose. Every step I take on that course is for him—for the laughter we shared, the moments we lost, and the fight he faced in silence.

This journey is for Matt, and for everyone still battling and the families that get left behind. I’m running not only to remember Matt, but to give back to the Children’s Bereavement Centre—a charity that offered incredible support to my niece, nephew, and sister in the aftermath of our loss. Their compassion and guidance helped them begin to heal, and now I want to help ensure other families facing similar grief can receive the same care. Every mile I run is for Matt, for the family he left behind, and for the vital work the Centre does every day.

I’m aiming to raise £2,500 for Children's Bereavement Centre, to help others families who are struggling with the loss of a family member. Every donation, no matter the size, will help to make a difference.

On race day I’ll be running for Matt but I am also running alongside my sister Louise (who is running for Mind) She has faced an unbearable loss but shows up every single day for my niece and nephew and has shown such incredible courage and strength.

If you are able to support, whether it be a donation or a share, advice or a power song from my training runs - I would be so grateful x

Here is a little info about CBC and the incredible work they do supporting children and families that have lost a loved one.

Meet the CBC Marathon Team – Running Miles for Smiles

From four different walks of life, we've come together as one determined team with a shared mission - To take on the TCS London Marathon 2026 and help the Children’s Bereavement Centre support even more children and young people when they need them most.

In 2024 alone the Centre supported 1,552 children, young people and their families- offering care, comfort, and guidance after the death or terminal illness of someone they love. But with more and more families turning to them each year we know the need is growing, which is why we’re hitting the ground running (literally) to raise vital funds- one mile at a time, one donation at a time.

Want to see what you're supporting? Watch their video here to see just why we are taking this challenge on: https://youtu.be/Z8bUAfIJZsI

Together we’re not just running a race- we’re running toward a future where no child has to face bereavement alone.

Heres how your donations can make a difference:

£10 could fund a comfort bear for a child—a small friend in a big moment.

£25 could cover one play therapy session, helping a child express what words can’t.

£50 could buy the crafts and toys used to gently explore emotions through creativity.

£100 could provide memory books—precious places to remember and reflect.

£200 could fund 8 one-to-one support sessions, walking alongside a child every step of the way.

And if you’re a UK taxpayer, don’t forget to tick that Gift Aid box- it adds 25% extra at no cost to you but will make a huge difference to the work of the charity.

Thank you so much for supporting our team. It’s because of people like you that the Children’s Bereavement Centre can continue the life-changing work it does.

We’re running with hope in our hearts, memories in our minds, and your generosity cheering us on.

Let’s do this- together.
