Story
Loaded with carbohydrates, energy gel and regret, I plan to take on the Plymouth Half Marathon for the fourth time.
Back when I was young and skinny and put myself through this, I raised money for SANDS in memory of Devlin McColgan - one of my oldest pals' sons who was born sleeping six days after we were blessed with Vinnie.
In the 10 years since, too many more friends have suffered the heartbreak of pregnancy loss at various stages.
So to encourage me to drag myself on a few more long runs before the big day and complete the course with at least a shred of dignity, I thought I'd see if anyone is inclined to chuck a few more coffers in the direction of SANDS.
Here's some of what the charity has achieved:
- 18921 bereaved families supported
- 13435 members supported at local support groups
- 3000 healthcare professionals trained in bereavement care
- 130 studies undertaken
Thanks and wish me luck. Not aiming for any time, just want to finish with both nipples intact.
Pic is me holding baby Nula, Devlin's then newborn sister, at the finish line in 2016.
